Be Safe In Pisa
Safety
Visitors to Pisa should take extra care with their belongings as incidents such as pickpocketing and bag-snatching are not uncommon. Places where you should exercise caution include on busy public transport, in tourist hotspots, shopping centres and at the train station. Thieves on motorbikes also operate, grabbing handbags from unwary tourists walking in the street.
If you want to avoid losing your valuables, keep your belongings in a hidden bag or money belt that is kept under your clothing. When possible, visitors should keep valuables such as air tickets and credit cards in a hotel safe or safety deposit box. Visitors may also come across women and children begging for money at popular tourist sights and at the train station. Be firm if you are approached by such a group, telling them to go away should they try and follow you.
If you rent a car during your stay, be careful to lock all doors and windows, and to hide valuable belongings before leaving your vehicle; rental cars are prime targets for break-ins. When you can, leave your car in a hotel or a supervised car park.
It is also not uncommon for tourists to get short changed when eating, dining and making purchases in tourist hot spots. Don’t be afraid to check the price and always scrutinise your bill before handing over your cash.
