Getting Around In Genoa
Getting around the centre is best done on foot The urban public transportation system in Genoa relies on buses and trains. Underground trains, taxis and the mountain elevator bring only a marginal contribution. Vehicle access is practically impossible in the historical town centre, which affects the town’s transportation system. The traffic is forced to flow through limited routes across densely populated areas.
By metro
Genoa has a small underground line with three stops in one part of the town. But, unless you want to reach a particular place that is accessible by the underground system, you may as well forget this form of transport, which is of little use to sightseeing tourists.

People are encouraged to use public transport through the creation of ‘Park and Ride’, public transport reserved traffic lanes, and the integration of buses and trains. With the same ticket, you one can travel within the town limits, having access to both buses and trains.
By bus

Going around by bus is perhaps the best choice in Genoa. The VoloBus is a public bus service, and there are special tickets in accordance with the length of the period of time you intend to travel around during the day, week or the month. VolaBus runs from the airport to Stazione Brignole train station, east of the centre. The bus also makes a stop at Piazza Acquaverde (Stazione Principe), the harbour train station. Tickets can be bought on the bus. The Rapid bus link also runs to the main railway station the Genoa city centre every hour.
Taxis
As in all other Italian cities, taxis have unmistakable white livery. Many of the taxis are able to receive calls made by the general public, but you can also find them in the 33 parking lots spread throughout the city, especially at the train stations, the airport and Fiera del Mare. Taxis run 24 hours, but offer only a marginal contribution to city transport due to traffic and congestion.
