Weather In Catania

The climate of Catania is a typical Mediterranean or coastal climate with mild winters and hot, dry summers. The weather can be very changeable from autumn through to spring, in marked contrast to the settled and sunny weather of summer.

Hot summers

Catania sizzles during the summer, with temperatures often soaring to 40C, making it the hottest city in Italy. July and August usually have the highest temperatures, along with continuous blue skies and up to ten or eleven hours of sunshine. The heat is moderated somewhat by the coastal sea breezes, making it more bearable, but the nights can be warm and sometimes humid.

During the winter months, the weather is less certain, with cloudy, rainy days alternating with spells of mild and sunny conditions. Sunshine still averages from four to five hours a day and temperatures are mild year-round. Travelling during the off-season is worth considering if you wish to avoid the sweaty summer months and benefit from the lower prices and fewer crowds.
