Galway Weather

Ireland is green for a reason. The many different shades of green (some say over 50) are a result of the high level of rainfall. Anyone visiting for more than a few days is almost guaranteed to see rain. However, as the Irish say: ‘it never rains in the pub’.

Summer

Galway’s climate is mild, with the warmest months being July and August. Summer temperatures average between 15°C to 20°C. Anything above that would be considered a hot day, and temperatures rarely get as high as 30°C. April is generally a very pleasant month, as the last elements of spring fade into the onset of summer. It can be quite wet though, so visitors should bring a waterproof jacket.

Winter

On the positive side, Galway seldom gets very cold, and snow and ice are quite rare. When the sun does shine - and it does quite often - its magnificent coastline and beaches can be enjoyed at their best. Winter is moderate and even in January and February the average temperature is between 6°C and 7°C.
