Weather In Derry

Derry, in the top northern part of Ireland, has a temperate maritime climate, rather wetter in the west than in the east, although cloud cover is constant across the region. The weather is unpredictable at all times of the year, and although the seasons are distinct, they are considerably less obvious than in interior Europe.

Rain

Visitors may be lucky enough to encounter a warm, dry spell in summer, but rain showers and bright intervals are much more likely. Take raincoats and umbrellas and be prepared for what the locals call 'soft' days, which are warm with fine misty rain that goes on for hours, keeping the Emerald Isle green. Don't let bright mornings fool you - the sun may not last. On the other hand, don't despair if you wake up to pouring rain; the sky may quite possibly be cloudless by midday.

Winter and summer

In winter, Ireland seldom sees snow, as winters here are generally mild. In the mountains, snow is not unusual. Summers in Ireland are not extreme either. It is unusual for the temperature to rise above 20C or 25C. June and July are the warmest and sunniest months, and the average total rainfall for Ireland is about 800mm annually.
