By air
Mykonos has an airport and can be reached from all major European destinations, via Athens. There are several flights a day in the high season with Olympic Airways and a daily flight out of season. The flying time to Athens is around 45 minutes. Olympic Airways also has connections with Iraklion (Crete) and Santorini. Aegean Airlines also has daily flights here in the summer.
During the high season, there are also some charter flights from a number of European destinations, without a transfer in Athens.
The airport is about three miles from Mykonos Town and the journey takes about 10 minutes. There is a good bus service and a taxi rank situated outside the airport, while many hotels offer minibus transfers to and from the airport.
By ferry
Mykonos has two ferry ports, and as one of the most popular destinations in Greece, there are regular ferries all year, with additional services in the summer season.
There are three ferries a day from the Pireaus (Athens) in the summer and one a day in the winter. The ferry port of Pireaus in Athens is situated opposite Pireaus Metro Station. The travelling time is around 6 hours and ferries stop at Andros or Tinos en route.
There are also hydrofoil and catamaran services that are more expensive and have high wind restrictions, but are of course quicker. The large catamarans are fast and air-conditioned, but the smaller ones can be very bumpy in rough seas. In summer, there are two services a day from Rafina, with services reducing to one a day in the winter.
It is easy to do some island hopping before or after your trip to Mykonos and there are regular boats to Kos, Rhodes, Crete, Ios, Mitilini, Iraklio, Santorini and Samos.
Taxis
There are dozens of taxis waiting to transport you around the island. In the town, the main taxi rank is located near the waterfront; rates are displayed on a board for each destination. Taxis can also be easily hired at the airport and at the ferry port.
