If you visit Corfu during peak season, you’ll probably find it too hot to engage in any strenuous physical activity and may find the extent of your exercise is turning over to tan your back after doing the front all morning! That said, many activities on offer in Corfu are sea-based and give you a good opportunity to cool off when the sun gets too hot. If you visit in the spring or autumn then you may want to get a little more physical and seek out some of the various land-based activities on offer, which make use of the island’s wonderful scenery and varying terrain.
Spectator sports
Opportunities for watching sport in Corfu are a little thin and football seems to be the only option available. Fans of the game can either follow their home teams on television at the countless bars that screen English and European matches or try and catch the island’s own team, AO Kerkyra at the National Stadium (in Kerkyra), where they play games in the ‘A’ league of the National Category of Greek Football Championships.

Participant sports
As an island with a large number of developed beach areas, Corfu has no shortage of water sports on offer. Besides the obvious activities which can be pursued unassisted, there’s waterskiing, paragliding, jet-skiing, snorkelling and scuba diving. Many beaches also offer banana boat rides plus ring boats and pedaloes for hire. If you prefer dry, on-land activity, then there are opportunities for horsebacl riding, rock climbing and mountain biking. Furthermore, an excellent 18-hole golf course in Kerkyra, gives golfers a chance to practice their swing amid lush Mediterranean scenery.
