Getting to Leipzig
If you want to travel to Leipzig, you will have no problem getting here. The numerous train connections and bus transfers from throughout Germany and Europe allow those who may be travelling on a budget the chance to travel to the city. The ground transport network is extremely efficient, well-maintained and comfortable as well as being exceptionally good value for money. By car
Leipzig is easily reached by car from across Germany. It is centrally incorporated in the motorway network and is also located very close to an important European junction.
The nearest autobahns are the A14 (for those travelling north and northeast), the A9 (if you are travelling west) and the A38 (for visitors who are travelling south).
The Leipzig beltway has a total of 14 junctions, from which the different areas of the city can be directly reached. If you are travelling from Berlin and Magdeburg, you need to take the Leipzig-Mitte junction from the A14. If you are driving from Dresden, you need to take the Leipzig-Ost junction, again, from the A14. If you are arriving from Munich, Nuremberg or Erfurt, you need to take the Leipzig-Südwest junction from the A38.
By train
Being located right in the heart of the city centre, Leipzig's Central Station is one of the most important stations among the entire German rail network. The station underwent a massive refurbishment and is now a completely modern hub offering excellent connections as well as housing the Hauptbahnhof-Promenaden, one of the most modern shopping and service centres in the whole of Germany.
Central Station offers numerous long-distance connections including: the Intercity Express, EuroCity, City Nightline and DB NachtZug. The station boasts reliable and rapid links in all directions. Direct Intercity Express lines arrive and depart every hour to and from Hamburg, Berlin, Frankfurt, Erfurt, Munich, Nuremberg and Dresden. There are also non-stop Intercity connections to and from Magdeburg, Hannover, Bremen and Dortmund.
A rapid link to Leipzig Halle Airport is established and visitors will find frequent airport express trains travelling between Leipzig Central Railway Station and the airport every 14 minutes.

By bus
Eurolines offer direct daily services from national as well as international destinations such as Vienna. The trips can be long and arduous, but the buses are generally clean and comfortable. It is also possible travel to many major German cities, from where you can catch buses to the UK and the rest of Europe.
By air
If you arrive in Leipzig by air, you will land at Leipzig Halle International Airport, which is located 11 miles outside of Leipzig’s city centre. Flights are available to many major European cities such as London, Paris, Madrid, Barcelona, Milan and Vienna. There are also 25 other destinations throughout the Mediterranean which are served by this airport. The airport also receives flights from national destinations such as Hamburg, Düsseldorf, Frankfurt and Munich. To reach the city centre, you can either take an airport shuttle train, a bus or for a door-to-door service, taxis can be found outside of the Arrivals Hall.
Leipzig Halle Airport
Leipzig Halle Airport serves over two million passengers per year and is a busy dual-terminal facility providing a major gateway into and out of Saxony. Facilities at the airport include ATMs, banks and bureaux de change as well as restaurants, bars and a wide selection of shops. Additionally, business passengers will find extensive conference rooms fitted with essential business facilities. Disabled passengers are well catered for with ramps and lifts as well as adapted toilets and telephones. Car parking spaces for disabled drivers are also available.
The airport serves domestic destinations such as Munich, Frankfurt and Düsseldorf as well as European destinations such as Mallorca, Paris and London.
Leipzig Halle airport transportation
For ground transfer options, passengers are able to choose between trains, buses and taxis. The Airport Express service connects the airport with the city’s train station, while the Airport-City bus service operates twice an hour and offers 30-minute connections with the city. Taxis can be found outside the Arrivals Hall of Terminal B and although more expensive than public transport, they offer a door-to-door service.
