Heidelberg Weather

Heidelberg enjoys a nice climate, with warm, sunny summers, mild winters and a perfect amount of rainfall, around 700 millimetres annually. With pleasant weather throughout the year, Heidelberg can be visited at any time. The temperature is around 1°C in winter (January) and around 20°C in summer (July to August).

Because of its location, the city receives good weather from the south. A lot of travellers visit Heidelberg during the summer, between May and September, when Heidelberg enjoys the most hours of sunshine. In the summertime, Heidelberg is packed with many tourists as well as Germans who come here to indulge in the perfect weather. As the city is usually crowded with students, summer is when they all go home or go travel somewhere else. So, if you want to wander around without having to be surrounded by teenage students, this is the right time to visit Heidelberg.

Heidelberg is also famous for its Christmas Market, which is aptly held in winter. The city is less crowded during this time, as many students go home to visit their families. You will also pay less for your accommodation, as winter is not considered a high season in Germany.
