Hannover Leisure

There are an abundance of leisure opportunities in Hannover, with everything from football matches to outdoor cycling, running and walking opportunities, all in scenic settings.

Football

During the 2006 World Cup, five matches took place in Hannover, and not surprisingly, football features prominently as the most popular sport in Hannover. The local team, Hannover 96, may not be the most fashionable European side around, but they currently play in the top German division and a trip to see them play can be a good way to pass an afternoon, and an opportunity to see one of the more famous German teams if they are visiting.

Fitness facilities

Fitness fans will find reasonably equipped gyms and fitness facilities in most good hotels, and these are also convenient and free for guests. Many hotels also have swimming facilities.

Lake Maschsee

For something a little different, a trip to Lake Maschsee is worth considering. Lake Maschsee is six kilometers around and is an interesting and relaxing place to go for a run, cycle or a walk in a natural environment. It is also possible to rollerblade here. During the winter, when the lake freezes over, ice-skating becomes a popular activity on the lake.

Cycling

Cycling can also be combined with sightseeing, as Hannover has bicycle routes covering much of the town, especially the parts that may be more of interest to visitors.
