Hamburg is, like the rest of Germany, a rather safe place. In the area around the Mönckebergstrasse, the main station, on the Reeperbahn and on crowded escalators; watch out for pocket-picking. Travel insurance is an easy way of ensuring you aren’t left short.

The German health service is excellent, but can be expensive. Foreign visitors from non-EU countries require some form of health insurance, however brief their visit. Visitors to Germany need to be aware that the kind of cover provided by many travel insurance schemes is frequently rather limited.

If you travel to some other European country or overseas, check with your
health insurance company about how much cover you will have in that country. It
may be necessary to take out some additional form of travel insurance.
