Frankfurt Leisure

The Frankfurt region has something to offer every sports enthusiast, from gentle leisure-time recreation through to professional level activities. You can choose from a relaxing round of golf at one of the many picturesque courses, hiking through the very beautiful Hochtaunus Park, or canoeing and sailing on the Main River.

Football

The 2006 football World Cup brought a huge boost to the city of Frankfurt. The Waldstadion stadium underwent three years of refurbishment, resulting in the stunning, light and airy Commerzbank Arena, featuring a transparent, retractable roof. It played host to five matches including a quarter-final. Unfortunately, the city's football team seem to be in a constant battle against relegation from the Bundesliga. They also share the stadium with the American football team, Frankfurt Galaxy. The Eissporthalle Frankfurt (ice sports arena) has two skating rinks and serves as the region's main attraction for all ice-sports fans.

Inline skating

There are a number of good bike trails in the area, especially along the Main River. They offer terrific views of the city skyline and are popular with the local people. Jogging and walking are also possible here. Inline skating has taken Frankfurt by storm and is a great way to see the city. The city runs a ‘Tuesday Night Skate’ that is extremely well organised, with a police escort keeping the streets free of cars. Thousands of inline skaters meet up at Deutschherrnufer, after which they skate a 30 to 40km route through Sachsenhausen, across the bridge, through the city centre and back.

A place to relax

Frankfurt has 48 parks and gardens, so you will never be far from a place to relax.  There is a good choice of indoor and outdoor swimming pools across the city. If you are looking for something good for body and soul, pay a visit to one of the region’s many renowned spa towns, where you will be able to enjoy a relaxing and rejuvenating atmosphere.
