Be Safe in Dresden
Dresden is a great city to visit and the majority of tourists have a hassle-free stay, as long as they remain vigilant and exercise common sense. The hospitals and clinics are of a good quality and the streets are clean and well lit, while the notable police presence is also a plus.
Health
Dresden is a health-conscious city and there are no serious health risks to be aware of. The hospitals and clinics are of a very high standard and British citizens as well as citizens of the EU in general, can receive free emergency medical treatment. Be sure to take along an EU Health Insurance Card in addition to taking out medical insurance for proper cover and peace of mind.

Safety
Dresden is a safe city, yet common sense needs to be applied to enjoy your stay without incident. Theft, including pick pocketing, is a problem the world over and Dresden is no exception, where petty thieves hang out around popular tourist attractions and at bus and train stations to catch out weary tourists. Keep away from dimly lit areas after dark, especially when walking by yourself, and avoid using cash machines at night. Cars drive on the right-hand side of the road in Germany and travellers from Britain need to pay special attention when driving and crossing the road.
As part of former East Germany, Dresden has a large nationalist population and while visitors are unlikely going to see any evidence of this, it is advisable to stay away from public demonstrations of any kind and from certain bars.
