Dresden Transport
Dresden’s combined tram, rail and bus system covers much of the city and provides the best option for visitors wanting to see all the sights; all-day tickets can be purchased for a reasonable price. Tourist services are also available and include several narrow-gauge railways around the city, while bicycle paths, taxis and ferries across the River Elbe provide other options.
Tram/train/bus
The Straßenbahn is a combined tram/bus/train system that links the city centre with most sights and suburbs. Although services become very busy during peak hours, this system is the best way for getting about Dresden, including at night. Hourly and daily tickets are available, including family day tickets, which are valid until early the next morning. You can buy tickets and maps at automated dispensers outside the main station.

There are a number of tourist travel services available around Dresden,
including traditional narrow-gauge railways between Bad Schandau and the Lichtenhain Waterfall (Saxon Switzerland National Park); the Weisseritz Valley Railway between Freital and Kipsdorf; and the traditional line between Radebeul and Radeberg. The Dresden Park Railway is also a good option, especially for families with children, stretching from the city centre to Strassburger Platz and winding through Grosser Garten Park.
By bicycle
Cycling is a popular way to get about Dresden and there are miles of cycle paths and many bike rental outlets to make use of. Cycle paths are denoted by a white bike symbol on a blue background or a red mark on the pavement.
Taxis
Taxis are widely available and can be hailed from the street, taken from a taxi stand or booked by telephone. The taxi stand at the airport is located directly in front of the terminal entrance and there are extra charges for excess baggage and late night travel.
