Dresden Restaurants

Dresden offers an array of dining options, from the traditional and filling Saxony dishes in the splendid Baroque palaces of the Neustadt to dishes from around the world in the many international restaurants. Quality wine is also produced in Saxony and can be sampled at Dresden’s eateries, while the beer gardens along the Elbe will appeal greatly to drinkers.

Local Cuisine

Saxon food is traditionally hearty and Dresden is certainly no exception, with sour roasts and potato soup being typical and very popular dishes in this part of Germany. The doner kebab is also very popular, served with salad and sauce in a pitta, and the best ones can arguably be had at Dürum Kebap Haus on Rothenburger straße. A kebab dish with a drink is one of the cheapest eats out in Dresden. Italian food is also a favourite in the city, and there are many ethnic restaurants to choose from.

Where to eat

The most popular area for restaurants in Dresden is in the New Town (Neustadt), which lies to the north of the River Elbe and also has an excellent supply of bars, pubs and clubs. Prices in the Neustadt are also pretty reasonable, particularly in the Albertplatz, while the historic Frauenkirche area offers great eating options, although prices are high and the food quality can be low. The eastern part of town has a lower concentration of eateries, but the food here is good and prices are very reasonable.
