Bremen Leisure

There are a wide variety of sports clubs offering a choice of activities from soccer, swimming and rowing to martial arts, chess and parachuting. Some of the clubs are organised by Landessportbund Bremen. SV Werder Bremen competes in the Bundesliga, and just two miles from the downtown area, the 2004 German Champions welcome all football fans in their newly renovated Weserstadion, located directly at the riverfront, close to the city centre.

Public access grounds

The Stadionbad is the nicest and biggest public swimming pool of the city, with huge swimming pools, green meadows and a location close to the downtown area. The Stadionbad is directly beside the Weserstadion, Bremen’s soccer stadium, and the River Weser.

Cycling

To enjoy nature and go exploring, bicycles can be hired from Fahrradstation, at the left wing of the Central Station. Bremen is an ideal place to cycle, but you need to observe a few rules. Your bike has to have certain features like a bell, reflectors and lights. If these things are missing, you are not supposed to ride in traffic. If there is a special cycle track, it should be used in the direction of the road lane next to it. In some residential areas, you are allowed to cycle the wrong way along a one-way road, as indicated by a special sign.

Inline skating

Happy Skater, Café Sand and Haus am Walde are service stations where you can borrow skating equipment such as skates, protectors and skate wings. The service stations will look after your other clothes while you are skating. Inline skates however must be used on the footpaths, not in the car lanes or cycle tracks.
