Be Safe in Bremen
Bremen is a relatively safe city, but it should be noted that visitors tend to be more prone to accidents when in an unfamiliar environment and on holiday. Be cautious when exploring Bremen, and taking out travel insurance for you and your family is strongly recommended.
Safety
Be aware of the trams that run along the main shopping street - the Obernstrasse. Luckily, they ride at slow speeds, but sometimes that means they can be a silent killer. The station square is the other tram hurdle you need to negotiate. The walkways are combined with tram tracks, and as a first-time visitor, you will not likely know which tramline goes where. Also avoid Tenever, one of the worst areas of the city, especially after sunset, as it is a high crime area.
It is advisable to take out an insurance policy before travelling to cover against theft, loss and illness or injury. A good all-risks home insurance policy may cover possessions against loss or theft, even when overseas. Many private medical schemes also offer coverage plans for abroad including baggage loss, cancellation or curtailment and cash replacement as well as sickness or accident cover.

Health
Bremen presents very few health risks for tourists. Health threats are minimal and the risk of disease in Bremen is no higher than in any well developed European city. The water is safe to drink and food hygiene standards in restaurants are high. It is a good idea to have either appropriate travel insurance to cover medical costs or the necessary documentation from your home country if you are an EU citizen wishing to take advantage of reciprocal agreements should you fall ill while visiting Bremen.
