Bremen Transport

Bremen has a very good public transportation system. The Bremer Strassenbahn AG (BSAG) is Bremen’s public tram and bus transport service operator, with a fleet of 378 vehicles that serves the whole city. There are several ‘park and ride’ parking lots on the outskirts of the city. You can park here for free instead of paying for parking in the downtown area.

You can take buses or trams from the ‘park and ride’ areas to downtown or any other district in Bremen. Bremen is a city that can be easily explored by bicyle. It’s not too big and almost anything and anywhere of interest can be reached by a short ride.

By train

The heart of Bremen’s public transport is the Hauptbahnhof Central Station. From here, you can take the local trains to various locations in and around Bremen.

By bus

There’s a good tram and bus system that runs every 5 to 10 minutes, depending on the line. The system takes you almost anywhere, and the main hub is at Central Station, where you can connect to every other line.

Taxis

Taxis are numerous and relatively inexpensive in Bremen. Ideal for short hops or door-to-door service.  Taxis can either be found at central points in the city, such as at the airport or at Central Station, or they can be pre-booked by telephone. Visitors on a tight budget, however, should make use of the cheaper public transport system.

Tourist services

When booking a trip to Bremen, you can also book a door-to-door airport transfer shuttle service. From Oldenburg and the surrounding area, there is the Luftibus shuttle service. Passengers can also have their car collected from the airport for an inspection while they are on a holiday or a business trip. The car will be returned to the airport in good time.

Guided airport tours are also available for groups of 10 to 30 people, and take between 1 hour, 30 minutes and 2 hours. The tour includes a visit to the Bremenhalle, a gallery displaying aviation and space including the historical Bremen transatlantic aircraft and the Spacelab. On request, airport tours can also be arranged for children’s birthday groups.

From the airport

Tram number 6, which picks passengers up just 22 metres from the airline check-in desks, runs every 10 minutes to Bremen and takes about 17 minutes. At peak times, the tram runs every 10 minutes. A taxi from the airport to the main railway station in the city of Bremen takes approximately 20 minutes, depending on the traffic.

Airport facilities

Bremen Airport offers passengers and visitors first-class catering facilities. Food and beverages for every budget are available in the airport restaurant, the snack bar in the Arrivals area, the bars located in the Departures areas of terminals 1 and 3 or in the cafeteria at the Altantic Airport Hotel.

Retail outlets at the airport include two duty-free shops; a shop selling travel accessories, souvenirs, cosmetics and perfumes; a bookshop/newsagent; a bakery; a shop selling aircraft models and aviation-related literature; a sunglass emporium; a hairdresser and a florist. Food and beverage choices are offered at three cafes, a snack bar, a cafeteria and a drinks bar.
