Bonn has an excellent selection of lodgings in most budget ranges. Many of the hotels fall under the four and five-star category, particularly if you stay in the historic Bad Godesberg city centre. If you are looking for a dirt cheap backpacker hostel, you’ll be hard pressed. While there are a few youth hostels, prices don’t come cheap.

Where to stay

If you are willing to spend a bit more for your hotel room, you will find plenty of classic luxury accommodation around town. Many of the hotels are in the city centre - Bad Godesberg, which is probably the nicest part of the city to stay in. Quite a few of the nicer hotels are converted mansions and other lovely old buildings with lots of character and class.

Of course, there are plenty of mid-range hotel rooms in Bonn, some of them also in Bad Godesberg, such as the Hotel Flora. Many of these mid-range hotels provide style and comfort for a reasonable price. The central train station has a number of decent hotels as well if you need to get out of the city early.

The Rhine River, one of the highlights of Bonn, is another good choice for a room with a great view. Finally, the area around the Siebengebirge Mountains, just outside of the city, has some excellent hotels. The area is quiet, natural and provides easy access to all the outdoor activities in the mountains.    

When to visit

Like most cities in Europe, Bonn sees the highest number of visitors during the summer. Many people use Bonn as a base for exploring the surrounding Rhineland region, so the popular hotels book up quickly. Be sure to make your room reservations well in advance if you are travelling during these months. The Christmas season is the second busiest time of year, as the beautiful winter scenery attracts many visitors.

Consider visiting during the autumn months of September and October, when the crowds are low and the weather is excellent. Spring is also a pleasant time of year for a visit. Many hotels offer reduced room rates during the off-season and you’ll have many of the city’s attractions all to yourself.
