The hotels in Toulouse are situated primarily around the city centre in three main areas. Make your hotel reservations well in advance if you plan to arrive in Toulouse during the peak season or in festival or holiday periods.

Where to stay

Smack in the middle of town, next to the vast and wonderful Place du Capitole, you will find all of the grand and expensive hotels. The Crowne Plaza Hotel and the Grand Hotel de l’Opera are two of the most luxurious hotels in Europe and well worth the cost. Staying around the Place du Capitole means you can walk to all the best highlights of Toulouse: the historical monuments, the markets and the quaint pedestrian streets.

The second major area for hotels is around the Place Wilson and the Allees Jean-Jaures. Here you can also find some very nice, upscale rooms and a handful of moderately priced ones. This area has the advantage of being not only near the centre of town, but also near the Midi Canal and the Metro, which opens up lots of opportunity for travel.

The third major area is near the Matabiau Station. A large number of hotels can be found around here, from the luxurious to the cheap and unpretentious. This neighbourhood is full of life and activity during the day and a major destination for merrymaking after dark. Most of the big chain hotels can be found along the Midi Canal or to the north of town near the ring road.

When to visit

As in the rest of France, hotels are heavily booked during the peak summer vacation months of July and August, and around New Year. Make your reservations well in advance if you plan to travel during these times. Otherwise, consider visiting in the low seasons, when room rates are much less and there are fewer tourists. The spring and fall are particularly nice times of the year to visit.
