Getting To Strasbourg

There are several ways to get to Strasbourg, which lies at the crossroads of Europe. Two major highways, the A4 from Paris and the N4, link the city with the rest of France and western Germany, making it very easy to arrive by car. France’s national train system makes a stop right in the centre of the city and a number of buses run regularly into Strasbourg. The city’s international airport is located just 15kms from the city and services a number of domestic and international flights, primarily from the UK, Belgium and the Netherlands.

By car

Strasbourg is conveniently situated on the central European highway network, which makes it easy to get there by car from Paris, Amsterdam, Luxembourg, Bonn and Brussels. The German motorway network is just a few kilometers away from Strasbourg and can connect you to Hamburg, Frankfurt, Munich, Basel and Milan. If you are coming from Paris or any other northern city, you can take the A4 motorway, which runs directly into Strasbourg. Drivers arriving from the south of France can use the A35 motorway from cities such as Obernai, Colmar or Mulhouse. Alternatively, the N83 can be used to come from Colmar or Selestat and it also connects with the N353, which runs east to the German town of Offenbourg. Visitors arriving from Saverne and other towns in western France can take the N4 motorway, which continues through the city and heads east into Germany towards Kehl. You can always fly into Strasbourg and rent a car at the airport, but it’s advisable to book your car hire online ahead of time to avoid any problems and save money on the rental rate.

By rail

There are excellent railway links with many European cities including London (6 hours), Brussels (5 hours) and Frankfurt (2 hours, 50 minutes). Strasbourg’s central train station is also directly linked to France’s major cities such as Paris (4 hours), Bordeaux (7 hours) and Marseille (9 hours). The city’s main train station is located at Place de la Gare, near the city centre. At least nine trains arrive daily from Paris and 13 trains arrive from Nancy each day.
