St Tropez Leisure

Sports play a vital role in attracting tourists to St Tropez, and there are plenty of world-class activities and facilities around the town catering to traditional sports such as golf, tennis, squash and horseback riding. Water sports are the main attraction however, with yachting being particularly popular. Leisure pursuits include sunbathing, people-watching, celebrity-spotting and hiking along the coast. The traditional game of boule is also very popular in the town.

Yachting

St Tropez has positioned itself firmly on the international yachting circuit, with the town hosting the important IRC Mediterranean Championships in April as well as organising other international and regional regattas throughout the year. The town has many excellent spots from which to view the colourful sails of the yachts as they compete in the St Tropez Bay. Yachts are also available for charter, as are motor launches, and cruising the bay in the company of some of the world’s most luxurious boats in the summer is a great way to enjoy your holiday.

Polo

In keeping with its exclusive image, St Tropez hosts a few international polo competitions in the summer and in the early autumn. The International Polo Cup is held in July, while September witnesses the exciting Gold Cup.

Car Rallying

Motor racing is also a popular spectator sport in St Tropez, and anyone can participate in certain events. One of these events is the nostalgic Rallye des Belles, which features vintage and classic cars winding their way through routes across the headland and into the Provence countryside. The rally is held each year in May.

Boules

This traditional game is performed in market squares around the town, most notably at Place des Lices, where celebrities have been known to participate. Whether or not you choose to join in, just watching the locals play is an enthralling experience in itself.
