Getting To St Tropez

St Tropez is slightly more out of the way than most Riviera destinations, but is still easily reached by a variety of transportation methods. Most visitors arriving by air use Marseille Provence International, as it has the most convenient flight schedule. Trains reach as far as St Rafael, from where there are frequent buses to St Tropez. There are also ferries running between St Tropez harbour and Nice, Cannes, St Rafael and St Maxime. The French highway system is very fast and safe, and there are motorways linking St Tropez to Nice and Marseille.

By car

Motorways around the French Riviera are very safe and provide fast access between cities and towns. St Tropez is located near the A8, which links Marseille to Nice. From Marseille, exit at the Cannet des Maures junction and follow the D558 for about 40kms to the town. From Nice, exit A8 at the Le Muy junction and take the D25 to St Tropez, again a distance of about 40kms.

By rail

Visitors travelling by rail to St Tropez can disembark at one of three train stations: St Raphael (38kms), Des Arcs (47kms) and Toulon (70kms). Each of these stations has regular bus links to St Tropez, and St Raphael also has a ferry link. Express trains from Paris takes around 4 hours to Toulon and St Raphael.

By bus

As St Tropez has no public airport or railway station and visitors without their own transportation will need to transit the last part of their journey by bus. Fortunately, there are frequent bus services between St Tropez and the three main airports (Toulon Hyeres, Nice and Marseille) as well as the three closest railway stations (St Raphael, Des Arcs and Toulon). Most bus schedules are timed to meet arriving or departing flights and trains.

By ferry

St Tropez is connected to St Raphael, St Maxime, Nice and Cannes by regular boat services, and visitors travelling by ferry from Rome can use the port at Toulon.

By air

There is a small private airstrip in St Tropez, with larger airports at nearby Toulon Hyeres and Nice; however, most visitors arriving by air opt to use Marseille International Airport, which has a greater selection of regular and charter flights from the UK and major European cities, not to mention convenient ground transfer options.

Marseille Provence International Airport

An important southern aviation hub, Marseille Provence International Airport has frequent scheduled flights to destination all over the UK, Europe and beyond. The convenient selection of flights makes Marseille Provence International the preferred gateway to St Tropez for most tourists arriving by air. The terminal has three halls, of which Hall 1 is for international arrivals and departures; Hall 3 for domestic arrivals; and Hall 4 for domestic departures. The airport is very modern and has an extensive range of facilities and amenities.

Marseille airport transportation

Marseille Provence International is located about 70kms from St Tropez. There are regular shuttles and buses connecting the town with the airport, leaving at least hourly; the journey takes under 90 minutes. Visitors can also opt to rent a car, with the A8 motorway providing fast and safe access to St Tropez. Exit at the Cannet des Maures junction and follow the D558 for about 40kms to the town.
