Orleans Entertainment

Most of Orleans nightlife takes place along Rue de Bourgogne, as well as several places on Rue Bannier. There are a couple of popular jazz clubs in town, which include Paxton. Paxton is renowned throughout the city as offering a traditional English pub atmosphere. For those who enjoy music to dance to, Le Ka is an ideal to dance the night away.

The Choeur Symphonique et Ensemble Orchestral du Centre hosts classical concerts throughout the year as well as solo performances and opera. The Le Thatre de L'oeuf Dix Pas is home to a selection of French plays throughout the year. You will find popular plays as well as the more cutting edge theatre performances.

Rue Jeanne dArc is one of the main avenues in Orleans, dedicated to the towns local heroine. The avenue stretches from the Place General de Gaulle to the Sainte-Croix Cathedral. Most of the chic boutiques in town are found along this street selling designer clothes as well as cheaper but beautiful, alternatives. In Place dArc, you will find the biggest shopping centre in the city, which offers many clothing outlets as well as high street and home-ware shops. Markets are held throughout the city, on most days and sell items ranging in price and quality from expensive antiques to second hand items of clothing.

Eating out

Rue de Bourgogne is where the majority of the citys restaurants are located. A variety of cuisine, catering to all tastes, can be found here. Restaurants offer food from across the world including: local French delights, Vietnamese cuisine and Indian favourites. Prices vary throughout the street and you will find everything from street stalls selling cheap dishes to expensive haute cuisine restaurants.

Local brasseries can be found throughout the city, where you can enjoy a drink and have a bite to eat in a relaxed atmosphere. Many cafs offer excellent value as well as a traditional French experience. The food may not be up to top restaurant quality, but it is still delicious and can be had at a fraction of the cost of many of the citys restaurant dishes.

When the weather calls for it, locals enjoy eating outside on the terraces of brasseries. Traditional French Plat du Jour, a one off special and menu du Jour, an appetiser, second course and dessert, can be found in any brasserie and always at great prices. French cuisine consists of some of the best dishes in the world and there is a lot more to it than just frogs legs or snails. You will find wonderful sauces to accompany tender meat and some extremely tasty desserts such as crme brulee or mousse au chocolat.
