Be Safe In Nice

Nice is a lot easier going than the likes of Marseille and a few precautions will likely ensure you have a hassle-free stay. Pickpockets are the main threat for visitors, while dangerous drivers can also be a problem. Travel insurance is a must for all family members when visiting Nice.

Health

There are no major contagious diseases in Nice and no immunisations are required to enter the country, unless you are arriving from a yellow-fever infected country. The tap water is safe to drink, although visitors should perhaps refrain from drinking from toilet taps or water fountains.

France has the best public healthcare system in the world and its hospitals and clinics are of very high quality. Everyone can receive treatment in France’s emergency hospitals, yet only citizens of the EU can receive free treatment owing to reciprocal healthcare arrangements with their respective governments.

Safety

Pickpockets are the main safety concern in Nice and they congregate in the busy tourist parts of the city, including Cours Saleya, and at bus and railway stations. Promenade des Anglais also has a problem with pickpockets during all times of the day. Other areas to be wary of, particularly after dark, are les Moulins and l'Ariane, where crime rates are higher than elsewhere in the city.

Although on the decrease, many visitors have had items stolen from cars when they have been waiting at lights. Always keep doors locked and valuable items out of sight. Visitors with children should keep a special eye out when crossing roads, as local drivers are not known for their love of pedestrians.
