Montpellier Weather

An old university town in the Languedoc-Roussillon region in southwest France, Montpellier is lively with a great number of students and has lovely wide streets and spacious promenades boasting a variety of colourful flowers and trees. The historic centre of town is exquisite with marvelous architecture including an array of old churches and hidden courtyards waiting to be explored by visitors. Those wishing to indulge in the sun and sea can find white sandy beaches located only a short drive away, while wine-tasting tours make the whole trip even more delightful.

Warm summer, mild winter

With its location in the Mediterranean, Montpellier enjoys lovely weather all year round. In fact, the city offers one of the sunniest climates in the country. Spring is perhaps the best time to visit, when the flowers start to bloom and the sun is always shining.

The temperatures range between 14°C and 18°C, perfect for lazing around on the beaches or on one of the city’s many terraces. The hottest months are July and August when the temperature goes up to 26°C and most outdoor festivals take place. The weather rarely gets too hot and people usually come out to join the festive season.

Winter in Montpellier is not freezing, with the temperature dropping to about 6°C at night. Ski bunnies can head to the Cevennes Mountains and the Pyrenees, which are located close by. Montpellier welcomes visitors year-round to experience its excellent climate, enchanting atmosphere and precious hidden spots.
