Monaco Restaurants

Monaco offers a wide choice of food and the service and standards are as excellent as you’d expect. There is everything from Japanese to Mexican cuisine and eateries which range from small cafés to sublime five-star dining at the Louis XV. There’s something for everyone, but not many of the dining options are particularly cheap.

Local cuisine

Although Monaco’s food resembles French cuisine in most respects, the Monegasque specialties put their own twist on local favorites. Barbagiuan, which is a pastry filled with rice and pumpkin or spinach, leek and cheese, is perhaps the most famous appetizer. Fougasse are fragrant pastries adorned with nuts and aniseed. Socca (chick pea flour pancakes) and stocafi (dried cod cooked in a tomato sauce) are other local favorites. In the Old Town you can snack on focaccia, paninis and bruschettas. The fresh market at the Place des Armes is another great place to find something delicious and inexpensive to eat. Starting at 07:30 every morning, this indoor and outdoor market is a refreshing spot with its fountains, cafés and food stalls. One way to save a little money on eating is to focus on lunch, which always offers better value than dinner menus.

Where to eat

If you can, treat yourself to a meal at Louis XV in the Hotel de Paris. World famous chef Alain Ducasse creates an amazing menu with refined but wonderfully simple Riviera cooking;the atmosphere, service and staff here are the finest in Monaco. Another classic spot to dine, or just have a drink, is the Café de Paris, located just across the street from Louis XV. Whether sitting inside or outside, this is the best place for high society people watching and it has a great ambiance.
