Weather In Marseille

Marseille enjoys typically sunny Mediterranean weather year-round, with only a slight chance of rainfall no matter what month you visit. Most rain falls in the autumn and winter months, with brief torrential downpours being the norm. The prevailing wind, known as ‘Le Mistral’, arrives in late autumn and continues through the winter until early spring, making the outdoor conditions quite chilly and dry. Spring is typically unsettled, with hot, sunny days mixed with overcast, cool days, while summer is very hot and dry.

Summer

The most popular time of year to visit Mediterranean France is the summer, when the weather is hot, sunny and dry. Marseille also enjoys a long twilight, when the temperature is cool and the ambient warm light is perfect for touring some of the city’s best attractions including its shopping areas. Temperatures often climb to the mid 30°Cs and higher during the day, and drop to mid to high 20°Cs at night.

Winter

Winter in Marseille can get very cold due to the ‘Le Mistral’ winds that bring in chilly, dry air from the north. Rain is possible during the winter months, but mostly the days are sunny and can be quite warm. Nights are very cool and frosts are not uncommon. Temperatures range from high 10°Cs during the day to around freezing at night.

Autumn and spring
Autumn is the season with the most likelihood of rain, but the mild daytime temperatures and cool nights make it one of the best times to visit the city. ‘Le Mistral’ winds start blowing toward the end of autumn and don’t let up until early spring, bringing frosts and chilly weather to the region. The beginning of spring is unstable, with warm days followed by cooler days that generally become less frequent as spring progresses. Late spring sees some of the best weather conditions for visiting Marseille, with perfect, warm and cloudless days and comfortable evenings. Temperatures in spring and autumn tend to be in the 20°Cs during the day and mid 10°Cs at night.
