Lyon Weather

Lyon lies in the deep Rhône Valley between two mountain ranges, one of which is the mighty Alps, and this geographical positioning lends the city susceptible to unpredictable weather patterns. The climate is temperate and it can rain at any time of the year, while cold winds from the mountains mix with warm breezes from the Mediterranean.

Summer and autumn

Summers in Lyon are typically hot, with daytime temperatures from June to September frequently reaching 30°C or higher. There are also many sunny days, although thunder storms are also quite common in the summer. Rainfall is heaviest after September, when the autumn starts to roll in.

Winter and spring

Winter is not the best time to be in Lyon unless you are here for the ski slopes of the nearby Alps. Although temperatures usually remain above freezing, snow and biting winds are common. Spring is a rainy time of year, yet the temperatures are fairly pleasant hovering around 10°C to 15°C and peaking around 20°C.
