Lyon Leisure

Lyon is loaded with sports clubs and a significant percentage of the populace is active. With this interest in sports and leisure come impressive facilities including dozens of sports fields and gymnasiums and hundreds of clubs. Lyon has also appeared on the world sporting stage during the World Cup 1998 at the renovated Gerland Stadium; at the Lyon Tennis Grand Prix; and for the annual Lyon Marathon.

Summer sports

Lyon has plenty of top-class and mid-range golf courses in and around the city, ranging from professional outfits with the toughest of fairways to pitch ‘n putt courses for the less experienced. There is some outstanding parkland around Lyon, particularly to the northeast of the city, where the courses are stunning and water sports and horseback riding centres are also on offer. Lyon also has several quality swimming pools and leisure centres, which are ideal for escaping the summer heat.

Winter sports

The city is also heavily into the snow scene, with nearby top quality ski resorts in the Rhône Valley region of the Alps and many ice skating rinks in the city.
