Be Safe In Lyon
There are no serious health or safety concerns in Lyon and visitors will feel safe strolling city centre streets and the narrow streets of the Old Town. However, as with any tourist centre, Lyon has a slight problem with pickpockets, who tend to hang around tourist hotspots looking to bags and wallets to snatch.
Health
Lyon has an array of top quality hospitals and clinics, and some of the best doctors in the world. Many pharmacies are open until late at night and medical emergency numbers are available. The water is safe to drink and restaurants are hygienic. Should you fall ill for any reason, taking out travel insurance with medical cover will ensure that you are not left high and dry. This especially applies to citizens from outside the EU, who are not covered for free healthcare.

Safety
Lyon is a safe city for its size and populace, yet there are one or two dodgy areas in the city’s suburbs to stay away from at night. Tourists should be aware of their surroundings when sightseeing, especially when visiting prominent attractions and while frequenting bus and railway stations. These are the preferred places of pickpockets. Valuables should be kept out of sight where possible and handbags strapped across the body.
