Entertainment In Le Havre

A popular way to pass the time is to visit one of the towns popular restaurants, followed by a trip to one of the bars for a nightcap. There are many late-night bars and restaurants to be found across the town. If you would rather experience a more cultured evening, the towns many theatres always offer excellent performances and are very popular with visitors. Whatever you decide to do, you will not be short of good food and wine and will no doubt find the locals excellent company.

Eating out

Le Havre is home to a famous port and fish market, so fresh seafood can be found in abundance. There are a number of seafood restaurants as well as establishments serving up local cuisine. Cafs are also very popular for those looking for a lighter bite.

The locals have a reputation for being enthusiastic eaters who appreciate good food. Specialties consist of meat and fish, with not many options for vegetarian diners. Even the local cheeses are made using animal products, so be prepared if you are a strict vegetarian.

Local cuisine

Le Havre and its surrounding areas are famous for their apples, which they use in many dishes. The local cuisine is extremely tasty, with delicious sauces being served with most meals. Traditional French dishes on offer throughout the town include: moules la crme Normande, mussels in a creamy sauce; Normandy chicken, chicken grilled with apples, chestnut mushrooms and crme fraiche; carbonnade de boeuf, a beef stew made with potatoes and beer; and tarte au citron, lemon tart.

Theatre and music

Theatre goers will be in their element in Le Havre. The town is home to six theatres, each hosting performances of many different genres, by many different playwrights. If live music is more your scene, there are over 20 cafs offering live music seven nights a week. Those for whom dancing is a passion, this small coastal town houses numerous dance schools which all offer performances at various locations throughout the year.

Shopping

Le Havre is not a town that is renowned for its shopping opportunities, but there are some great bargains to be had if youve got a spare afternoon to explore the shops. Antique shops can be found along rue Joseph Morlent. These offer some excellent buys at great prices. If you are looking for an outfit to wear to one of the numerous restaurants, clothes boutiques can be found dotted around the town, offering a selection of items at a wide range of prices. There are two shopping centres which can be found in the town, and for a quality bottle of wine, specialist wine shops are scattered throughout.
