Cherbourg, now officially known as Cherbourg-Octeville, experiences a fairly temperate climate throughout the year, with temperatures rarely reaching extremes at either end of the scale. Summers can generally be relied upon to be warm, making this the best time of the year to visit if you are something of a sun worshipper.

Spring to autumn

The period spanning April to October sees consistently but not excessively high temperatures, with July, August and September constituting the hottest months; temperatures average in the low 30Cs at this time. If you dont like the heat, then you should visit in the period from April to June or in October, when temperatures in the city are a good few degrees cooler.

October to January see the highest rainfall, while the remainder of the year experiences moderate amounts, with April to June being the driest months.
