Travel to Cannes

A city and commune in southern France located on the Riviera, Cannes lies on the Cte dAzurwith its impressive sandy beaches. Cannes has become one of the busiest tourist destinations among jet-setters and famous celebrities as the city hosts many significant events including the annual Cannes Film Festival. Its old town, Le Suquet, is also a great spot for remarkable panoramic scenery.

Transportation to Cannes

The nearest international airport to Cannes is Nice International Airport located seven kilometres west of Nice. You can take a bus from the airport to Nice. Shuttle buses run every half an hour from 8am through to8pm witha travelling time of 30 minutes. Taxis are always at the airport with the fare being about 60 per one-way ride.
The trains operate daily between Cannes and Paris, Barcelona, Milan and Genoa. The TGV provides both inter-regional and regional trains with the high-speed train connecting Cannes to Paris, taking about five hours. Alternatively, there are ferries connecting Nice and Corsica and ferry services to Mediterranean destinations operate from Antibes which is 30 minutes away by train.

What to see

The first place to visit is La Croisette, the beautifulwaterfront avenue with gorgeous palm trees offering a relaxing promenade. La Croisette is very famous for its picturesque beaches where you can find many first-class resorts, restaurants, hip cafs and an array of brand name boutiques. La Suquet, the old town of Cannes, provides the breathtaking view of La Croisette. Visitors can see the remains of the fortified tower and the fascinating Chapel of St Anne housing the Muse de la Castre.In which are displayedmanyitems from artworks, musical instruments, sculptures, decorative arts to a section on ethnography. Some nice public beaches can also be found in this area. For chilling atmosphere stroll to les de Lrins where the unlucky man immortalised in The Man in the Iron Mask was imprisoned. This is only a short boat ride offshore.

Travelling around to other destinations on the Cte dAzur is a rewarding experience. Antibes is usually crowded during the summer and an ideal place for family outingshavingmany pretty beaches. Nice, a larger and busier city, is the tourist centre filled with many shopping areas and great night spots. Its old town boasts a variety of medieval architectural splendours that are worth checking out. Also Monaco, a bit farther away, welcomes visitors to its Casino Royale, Castle Rock and the Aquarium. Alternatively, you can also go to St Marguerite Island and St Honorat Island for their scenic beauty and impressive historic buildings.

Activities and leisure

Simply walking around Cannes is fun and entertaining as you can spot many famous celebrities engaging in retail therapy on the citys main streets, rue dAntibes and rue Meynardier. Thereis an array of designer boutiques and a great selection of restaurants and bars. The food is expensive if you eat at the waterfront while the Forville covered market offers inexpensive fare.

Safety issues

Pickpocketing is the main problem during festival time in the high season. Travelling around strange areas can be quite hazardous. Also be alert when driving around in the city. We strongly recommend you take out travel insurance for you and your family.
