Be Safe In Cannes
Cannes is a typical big European city and presents the usual risks to visitors in terms of the chances of being robbed or experiencing crime of some description. Violent crime levels are not especially high although by no means non existent and taking obvious precautions such as not wandering into poorly lit or unpopulated areas of the city at night can help you avoid becoming a victim. Car crime is prevalent and leaving anything valuable inside your vehicle is an open invitation to thieves. Avoid parking your vehicle in quiet, dark streets, whether it be your own car or a rental car, and think about locking the doors of your vehicle when sitting at traffic lights as an extra precaution.
Safety
As in any popular tourist destination, Cannes has its fair share of pickpockets and these are invariably very cunning characters who will either relive you of your wallet without fraternising with you in any way or will work with others who will distract you in order to make stealing your cash and possessions easier. Simple but essential advice is to keep wallets and purses in front pockets at all times or better still, keep cash in a concealed money belt.

Health
Cannes offers no risk of communicable disease through water or similar channels and visitors can rest assured that hygiene levels in restaurants are high and closely monitored. Sunburn and sunstroke can both be an issue during the summer season if you choose to overexpose yourself to the sun. Always pack a sunscreen with an appropriate SPF and avoid sunbathing between 12:00 and 14:00, when the sun is at its hottest. Should you fall ill or have an accident and require medical treatment, you are eligible for free treatment provided you are a citizen of an EU country and have the necessary documentation from your relevant local government office. However, if your country does not have a reciprocal agreement with France, you will need to make sure you have appropriate travel insurance to cover you for any medical costs you might incur. Cannes has a single general hospital, which is located on avenue des Broussailles.
