Be Safe In Bordeaux

Like most large cities, Bordeaux has its fair share of crime. In general, visitors to this city shouldn’t expect to run into any unpleasant situations, but in certain seedier suburbs and late at night, tourists are more vulnerable to petty criminals.

The biggest threats in Bordeaux are the pickpockets and bag snatchers, which are particularly rife at the city’s main train station. Wearing your bag across your body instead of hanging off your shoulder is a good way to deter an easy theft. Concealed money belts are also a good idea if you plan on going out to the clubs until the early hours of the morning. Theft from rented cars is another potential problem. Should you leave your rental car overnight parked in the street, there is a good chance it will get broken into, so never leave anything of value in your car. The chances of being the victim of violence are slim, but when heavy drinking is involved in a city with plenty of university students, anything can happen. Be careful when you are at the clubs after hours, as some people enjoy looking for a fight.

More than likely, the only physical pain you’ll suffer during your trip to Bordeaux is a wicked hangover from drinking too much of the wonderful wine. Drinking alcohol quickly dehydrates the body, despite the fact that you’re pouring liquids into it. Drink lots of water between glasses of wine to reduce the chance of a hangover.
