Avignon Weather

Generally speaking, Avignon experiences a temperate climate and one which is distinguished by frequent and heavy precipitation throughout the year; summer bringing heavy thunderstorms, autumn bringing regular downpours, winter seeing some rain but also sleet and snow, and spring experiencing light showers.

Summer and autumn

The period from June to September is perhaps the best time to visit, as temperatures are generally in the high 20°C and can often reach 30°C, which if you are a sun worshipper looking for a poolside holiday, is ideal. Despite the threat of rain, the summer is generally a sunny time and storms rarely last long enough to spoil the plans of holidaymakers. Autumn still sees some warm weather and a late September holiday is probably ideal for those not fond of sunbathing and looking to do some sightseeing.

Winter and spring

Unlike some European holiday destinations, Avignon does not really offer weather that is warm enough to provide respite from cold UK winters and is perhaps not an ideal winter holiday destination. Temperatures tend to stay between 0°C and 5°C, but can on occasion drop several degrees below freezing. As the winter season fades and spring arrives, you can expect temperatures of between 10°C and 15°C, with the odd fine day where temperatures reach 18°C to 20°C.
