Avignon Leisure

Avignon is not famous especially for any sports, particularly in a spectator capacity, and holidaymakers won’t find abundant opportunities for watching high profile sporting games, but they will find plenty of leisure and exercise options.

Spectator sports

Olympique Avignonnais is the city’s football team, which is no longer a big profile club and now plays in lower leagues. Visitors wanting to catch one of their home games can do so at Le Parc des Sports on avenue Pierre de Courbertin. Rugby can also be watched at the Baizet Stadium on route de Tarascon. For both sports, tickets can be purchased direct from the respective stadiums.

Participant sports

Among the city’s most popular participant sports is roller skating, with the last Friday of every month dedicated to a two-hour skating event within the city ramparts. A roller skating festival also takes place around May and June.

Not everyone of course is a fan of skating and for those who aren’t, there are sports such as golf, swimming, squash and tennis available as well as gymnasiums for keep fit fans.

Municipal golf facilities are available at the Pradier Golf Grand Avignon on Les Chênes Verts and at Golf de Chateaublanc on rue de Chateaublanc. The Saint Didier Fitness Club on place Saint Didier is meanwhile available for those wanting to work out. Alternatively, many of the city’s big hotels offer their own fitness centres which are free to guests or available to non-residents on payment of the required fee.
