Antibes and the surrounding villages, like the rest of the French Riviera, are one of the most expensive areas to vacation in the world. You won’t find much in the way of backpacker hostels or cheap motels, as the town caters more to upscale visitors. However, if you come during the low season, you can take advantage of greatly reduced room rates and enjoy the lack of tourist crowds.

Where to stay

Antibes itself has a variety of lodging options which include campgrounds, bed and breakfasts, hotels and posh resorts. Some of the more expensive hotels have private beach access, but the majority of hotels in Antibes are either tucked away among the quaint streets of the old town or lined along the coast.

The Cap d’Antibes is perhaps the most famous part of this area. This truly sublime piece of real estate is a large natural park, studded with the homes of multimillionaires and celebrities. At the point of this long bluff sits the infamous Eden Roc Hotel, considered by many to be the most beautiful hotel in the world. If you’re willing to splash out for the pricey rooms, you may find yourself sitting next to your favourite movie star at the pool.

When to visit

Hotels along the French Riviera are expensive by any measure, but if you come during the peak summer season in July and August, you will be shocked by how high the room rates are. Yet this doesn’t seem to deter the tourists. Make your hotel reservations well in advance if you want to have any hope of securing a decent room. If you want to save some money on your lodgings, consider visiting during the shoulder seasons or the winter.
