Antibes Health And Safety

Antibes is one of the safest towns you will find in France and a trip here shouldn’t present any problems other than sunburn or a hangover.

Safety

It’s not the locals you need to worry about, but the petty thieves who come here to prey on the hoards of tourists who flock to Antibes every summer. Like all major tourist destinations, there are a few pickpockets and thieves around. They ply their trade at the beaches, in the restaurants and any other place where tourists can get distracted.

If you keep your valuables with you at all times, you should be fine. Wear your camera and bag slung over your shoulder to discourage an easy grab and don’t flash money or jewellery, especially at night. Be extra careful of your belongings while at the beach. A quick dip in the sea could mean the loss of your wallet.

Health

There are no particular health concerns in Antibes, but be careful when you eat shellfish. If it is undercooked or not fresh, you can easily get very sick. The Mediterranean sun is strong and will quickly burn your skin, so always wear sun block and a hat when you go out and about. Keep yourself hydrated as well; even a short walk along the promenade can dehydrate your body on a hot sunny day.

If you have any health problems during your stay, there are excellent medical facilities right in Antibes. Citizens of the EU should be covered by reciprocal health agreements, but visitors from other countries should get some medical insurance to cover any unexpected hospital costs. The price of health insurance is very small compared to a French medical bill.
