Be Safe In Annecy
France, and Annecy in particularly, is generally a safe destination for travellers of all types. You’ll find good infrastructure here and relatively little crime, even at night.
Safety
The biggest threat is of petty theft and hotel room burglary. Non-violent crime like bag snatching and pick-pocketing can rob inattentive visitors of their cash and valuables. Some of these thieves work in teams and may even use motorcycles to make a quick grab and getaway. Be especially aware of pickpockets at the more popular tourist venues and during the crowded festivals. Try to keep your wits about you and don’t drink so much that you don’t know what’s going on.
If you carry a backpack, be careful that someone does not get behind you and cut it open with a razor to remove the contents without your knowledge. It’s best to keep valuables in a front pocket or a front waist belt. Secure valuables in your hotel room safe and be sure you don’t leave anything out. Watches and jewellery should be left at home.
Those travelling alone should be aware at all times, especially at night. When drinking in a local bar, if you leave your drink unattended, buy a new drink rather than sip the old one. There have been situations of drugging that have left victims robbed of their cash or worse.

Health
There are minimal health risks in Annecy. Food hygiene standards are equal to those of anywhere else in Western Europe and tap water is safe to drink. It’s always best to have a health and dental check-up before travelling, but if you become ill while in Annecy, there are a few good hospitals that can provide adequate care. You should be prepared with appropriate travel insurance to cover medical costs or the necessary documentation from your home country if you are an EU citizen wishing to take advantage of reciprocal agreements.
