Getting To Annecy

Annecy is easily accessed from other parts of Europe. There’s an international airport, a major motorway network and TGV (high-speed train) links with Lyon and Paris.

By car

Annecy is near several highways and easily reached by road. If you are coming from Paris, take the A6 southeast to Beaune and join up with the A6/N6 south to Mâcon-Nord. From there, go along the A40 southeast to Seyssel; this joins with the N508 going southeast to Annecy. The journey should take a minimum of 5 hours. The journey by road from Geneva is just 30 minutes along the A40W to St Julien and the RN201 south. From Lyon, take the A43 and from Grenoble and then the A41.

By rail

Several daily trains arrive from Grenoble, taking just 2 hours. A dozen or so direct high-speed trains arrive from Paris’ Gare de Lyon, taking just under 4 hours.

By bus

Annecy has bus service from Geneva, Grenoble, Lyon and Paris. Although it’s a cheap form of travel, going by bus is not as pleasant as travelling by train. Seats are cramped and there are frequent stops along the way.

By air

The nearest airport is Aeroport Annecy Haute-Savoie Mont Blanc (Annecy Meythet Airport) in the hamlet of Meythet and there is service here on Air France from Paris Orly Airport. An alternative is to fly to Geneva Airport in Switzerland and take the shuttle service to Annecy. Other airports nearby include: Chambery Aix-les-Bains, Lyon St-Exupéry and Paris Roissy.

Aeroport Annecy Haute-Savoie Mont Blanc

This airport is just seven kilometres from the city centre and serves around 100,000 passengers annually. Although tiny, the one-floor airport is fully equipped with a range of services and facilities. The bar and restaurant is open from 07:00 to 20:30 for breakfast, coffee, drinks and light meals. It can serve up to 40 customers at a time and the meals and décor are pleasant enough for an airport facility. A private salon for up to 12 guests can act as a meeting room. There are four rental car companies based at the airport as well as an ATM and bureau de change.

Annecy airport transportation

Several taxi companies service the airport and this is the best way to get to the city centre, just seven kilometres away. Taxis are metered and you can expect efficient and professional service. The taxi rank is located just outside the airport. If you cannot speak French, it’s best to have your hotel written down so you can show the driver. Alternatively, hire a car at the airport and find your own way to town. It can be very helpful to have your own vehicle to tour the many beautiful nature areas and mountains around Annecy.
