Annecy Transport

Getting around Annecy is easy and relaxing, and best done on foot. It’s also possible to hire bicycles and rollerblades. There is a local bus service if you are going further afield, while taxis are reasonably priced but should be ordered by telephone.

By train

The train station in Annecy is not designed to provide cross-city connections and visitors will find services to destinations beyond Annecy only. To get the best views of the lake and town, take the ‘petit train’ that connects the casino to the Old Town during the summer

By bus

There are plenty of SIBRA buses to shuttle you around town. Schedules are posted at every bus stop and fares can be paid to the driver.

Taxis

It’s best to phone for a taxi, as hailing one in the street is just not done here. Taxi drivers may speak some English, but to make yourself understood, you should carry a map and phrasebook. Your hotel concierge can assist you with the number for a local taxi company and explain to your driver your desired destination. Try Annecy Taxi: +33 4 5045 0567; www.annecy-taxi.net.

Tourist services

Bus services to and from the most popular sights in Annecy are available to tourists. Sightseers can buy packages to view natural sights, heritage sites or take guided tours of the city. There are even ski packages to nearby Mont Blanc.

From the airport

Passengers arriving at the airport will find it most convenient to make their transfer to Annecy by taxi, as the city centre is just seven kilometres away. Several car hire companies are also on hand, although you can also book a vehicle online and save yourself the hassle at the airport.
