Annecy Restaurants

Annecy offers a good assortment of dining establishments and visitors will find the sumptuous local cuisine is authentic. The diversity of French cuisine is impressive and the locals here have a good passion for dining. The cuisine encompasses local, fresh ingredients and meals range from the very basic baguette and cheese, all the way to hours-long dinners with a range of different, mostly expensive wines.

Most locals break for two hours at lunch, sometimes longer. Haute cuisine is classical French cuisine with added sophistication and is quite rich and hearty. Presentation is very important in local dishes. Bread, cheese and wine are the natural accompaniments to French food. In France, wine is considered an everyday part of meals and there are many inexpensive, good wines available. Cheese is often served as a course in itself after the main meal and before dessert.

Local cuisine

Bypass Annecy’s touristy restaurants in the main areas and instead meander down small alleyways to find the tiny local establishments. It’s best to learn some phrases in French, especially the names of some dishes you may want to try.

Where to eat

There are plenty of expensive establishments geared towards tourists, but with a little effort you can dine on equally tasty cuisine in a local and much cheaper establishment. International cuisine is also easily found. There are plenty of atmospheric restaurants and bars overlooking the lake and mountains, and you’ll find the views beautiful in the daytime. At night, try dining in the medieval town centre, which provides the most choice and romance.
