Weather In Aarhus

Like most of Denmark, Aarhus enjoys a temperate maritime climate. Most of the year is rather cold due to its extreme northern location, which is even chillier due to the winds that come in from the ocean.

Winter: harsh and uninviting

Winters are long and dark here. February is the coldest month of the year, with average temperatures hovering just above freezing, although it can be even colder in the mountains and sand dunes to the north of the city. This is not a good time to visit Aarhus, as the weather is simply too frigid to enjoy the outdoor attractions.

Summer: short and sweet

Summer finally appears around June and lasts about three months. The average temperature during this time is around 17°C, which is still rather cool for most visitors. Even at the height of summer, you will probably need to don a sweater at some point during the day, and particularly at night. The wettest months are July and August; however, it rains consistently throughout the year.

Summertime brings most of the tourists to Aarhus, who come to enjoy the brief but glorious warmth and long days. There are several festivals during August, and the population of the town swells enormously. Another excellent time to visit is in the spring. Although temperatures are still a bit chilly, this is the driest time of the year and not many tourists are around. Autumn is also a pleasant time, especially in September and early October, before things cool down again for the long winter.
