Aarhus has an extensive selection of hotels, inns, guesthouses and quaint bed and breakfasts to suit any taste. Depending on the time of year and even the day of the week, many of the hotels which are labelled as inexpensive may seem more like moderately-priced rooms. Where to stay

It’s unlikely you will find a room for anything considered within budget range, and many of the hotels here are considered luxury. If you prepare yourself for this price sticker shock, it won’t feel so painful. Much of the city is easily accessible on foot or by bicycle, so staying in the city centre has its advantages. The area around the bus station, also centrally located, has a lot of places to stay at the lower end of the price scale.

For a really luxurious experience, spend some money and stay in the Hotel Royal, Aarhus’ most glamourous accommodation. This neo-Baroque hotel was opened in 1838 and continues to attract discerning guests. Its location near the cathedral is a big bonus. The Hotel Philip is a lovely boutique hotel situated along the banks of the canal, and it offers some of the most appealing rooms in the city. Radisson’s SAS Scandinavia Hotel is a showpiece of modern architecture and was built in conjunction with an equally impressive convention centre.   

When to visit

The tourist high season runs from June to August. You will find the best hotels are usually booked in advance during the summer, so call ahead if you want to secure a good room. The end of August sees the crowds thin out, so try and schedule your visit for then. May is another excellent month to visit, as is September and October.
