From Copenhagen, you can make a connection to just about any other city in Europe. From southern and central Europe, you can make an easy train connection in Hamburg. Locally, there are 20 trains a day from Aalborg, Frederikshavn and the North Jutland port, where ferries arrive from Norway.

By bus

Bus service is limited to two daily runs from Copenhagen to Aarhus. From the Danish capital, you can connect to most major European cities.

By air

The nearest airport to the city is Aarhus International Airport, located 43kms northeast of the city in Tirstrup. Most incoming flights make a connection in Copenhagen first, of which there are about 12 flights each day, operated by SAS. There are also a small number of direct flights from Amsterdam, Gothenburg, Oslo, Stockholm and London. There are several convenient options to get from the airport to Aarhus.

By ferry

Aarhus Harbour has ferry and hydrofoil connections to Copenhagen via Kalundborg/Sjaellands Odde. You can also take a ferry to Frederikshavn or Grenaa from the Scandinavian countries and then catch a bus or train to Aarhus.

Aarhus International Airport

Aarhus International Airport is about 43kms from the city centre and offers a quick and convenient way to get to this somewhat remote European town. The airport has a single, small terminal which handles all domestic and international flights. Scandinavian Airlines (SAS) handles most of the flights, offering around 12 flights a day from Copenhagen. SAS also operates a direct flight between London’s Stansted Airport and Aarhus.

Ryanair, British Airways and Finnair run a limited number of flights between Aarhus and Oslo, Stockholm, Gothenburg and Amsterdam. The number of flights increases during the busy summer months.

The terminal has all the usual facilities which a traveller might need. ATMs and a currency exchange office can be found in the Arrivals area as well as a restaurant, newsstand, gift shop and duty-free shopping. An airport information desk is located in the main entry area of the terminal. Online information can be found at: www.aar.dk.

Aarhus International Airport transportation

There are several choices when it comes to transport between the airport and the city centre. One of the most convenient is the SAS Airport Taxi, a door-to-door service which will take you to any Aarhus address. You must be a passenger of SAS and there’s a maximum of two passengers per taxi. Only cash payments are accepted for the Airport Taxi. Regular taxis are also available for all visitors, and they wait outside the Arrivals Hall or can be called in advance on: +45 89 48 48 43.

The least expensive option is to take the airport bus, which runs between the terminal and the train station in Aarhus. The bus schedule corresponds to the main daily flight arrivals and departs from outside the Arrivals Hall. Tickets are sold on the bus and credit cards are accepted.
