Getting Around In Dubrovnik

Dubrovnik, like the rest of Croatia, has a fairly restricted public transportation system and getting around is limited to travelling either by bus or taxi. Fortunately, the city’s most thriving area is pedestrianised, so transportation requirements are somewhat redundant. If you want to get out of the city however, then you might want to consider hiring a car; this is certainly the most unrestricted means of seeing some of the sights in the smaller towns and villages around Dubrovnik.

By bus

Libertas runs Dubrovnik’s bus service and operates a number of routes across the city. Routes 1A and 1B are useful to visitors, as they connect both the bus station and the harbour at Gru with the Pile Gate entrance to the Old City. Route 4 is also useful for visitors staying on Lapad, providing a connection between Pile and the Lapad Peninsula.

Taxis

A taxi rank can be found outside of the Dubrovnik Bus Station and another in the Old City at the Pile Gate. Alternatively, you can book a taxi in advance by calling them by telephone on: +385 20 424 343; +385 20 423 164; +385 20 418 112 or +385 20 357 044. Taxi fares are ridiculously priced in relation to the cost of living and tourists tend to get ripped off if they don’t insist on using the meter.

From the airport

From the airport, passenger can choose between buses, free hotel shuttles or taxis for their journey into the city. Alternatively, the car hire companies based at the airport provide you with a more comfortable and less restricted means of reaching your onward destination.
