Sarajevo Weather

Sarajevo has a continental climate and is situated between the climatic zones of Central Europe and the Mediterranean. The annual average temperature is 10°C, and the city experiences mild summers with an average temperature of 18°C, while cold winters hover around freezing-point. January is the coldest month, when temperatures of -1°C are common. July and August are the city’s peak summer months, and temperatures can occasionally climb to 35°C due to the city’s altitude.

When to visit

The city receives almost 1,000mm of precipitation a year. The rainiest month is October, and the driest period is in late February to early March. When to visit the city will depend on your preferences regarding weather conditions. Snowy, crisp winter days will appeal to some, when crowds are fewer than in the peak summer months. The shoulder months before and after summer are also good times to visit the city, as the extremes of summer heat will be avoided.
