Sarajevo Leisure

The 1984 Winter Olympics were held in Sarajevo, and Yugoslavia won one medal, a silver in men's giant slalom which was awarded to Slovene Jure Franko. Despite the Bosnian War, many of the Olympic facilities survived these turbulent years including the Olympic Hall Zetra and the Asim Ferhatovi Stadion.

Football and basketball

Football is a very popular sport in Sarajevo. The city is host to FK Sarajevo and FK eljezniar, which both compete in European and international cups, while other prominent teams in the city include FK Olimpik and SASK. Basketball is also popular in Sarajevo, and the local team, KK Bosna Sarajevo, won the European championship back in 1979.

Events and competitions

Sarajevo also holds international events and competitions in sports such as tennis and kickboxing, while rock climbing is also popular locally. Future major sporting events that are planned for Sarajevo include the 2009 Special Olympic Winter Games. The climbing crag Dariva is located close to the city, and is managed by the extreme climbing club Red Point.
